A typical Omniscope workflow will contain the data integration and preparation steps, along with one or multiple reports. This allows optimal efficiency and minimises the time needed for the data to go from the source to the audience, in form of an interactive dashboard. 

When the whole process is hosted on a server, multiple users can access the visual reports 

  • by clicking on the URL link 
  • by accessing a dedicated web page with the reports list
  • via web page with an integrated interactive report (with an embedded iFrame) 

In all of the above cases - the report remains on the dedicated server and is updated periodically. The viewer will need to be able to access the hosted report URL and will see the latest version of the dashboard shared with them.

There are also some use cases when it might be more convenient to 'can the report' and preserve the structure and the data in some moment in time, for audit and archiving purposes (e.g. to preserve transactions summary at the end of every week); or to allow the viewer to access Omniscope interactive report offline (for that, at the time of writing, the user will need a commercial license).  IOR is a file that contains all it needs to run an interactive report and to give the viewer exploratory experience, however, once created, it is cut off from the workflow and will no longer pick up the changes and data updates.

How to create an IOR file (manually)

Automated publishing of IOR files

If IOR files are used as part of the archiving process, in effort to create regularly report outputs for later consumption, the whole procedure can be automated via Omniscope Scheduler application.

Step 1: on the Main Scheduler page, on the Task list: Add a new scheduler task

Step 2: inside your new Task page add a New Action > Project IOX file action

On this page you can configure the task timing settings, to specify how frequently the task should be executed (e.g. every day, every 2 hours or every month...)

Note: Action names and task names can be edited, so it's useful to give them meaningful names at this point. Each task can consist of multiple actions.

Step 3: pick 'Create IOR from Report' option

Follow the config prompt, then save the changes.

You can now test the new task on the main task page - although it is scheduled to run at a specific time, your test will execute all actions immediately, so you can be sure it returns a correct output.

Click on the Play button next to the task name to run this test.
