Antivirus exclusions

Modified on Tue, 14 Sep 2021 at 11:43 AM

Omniscope Evo depends on high performance disk access for many aspects of its operation. If you have antivirus software running, it may impact performance, since the AV software will intercept everyday disk accesses in order to look for suspicious activity. To mitigate this, you should configure "exclusions" or "exceptions" (areas of your disk not to scan or monitor) in your antivirus software.

It's not possible to list all antivirus software with instructions how to configure this. Refer to your antivirus software documentation, looking for how to "add exclusions" or "add exceptions".

Folders to exclude

The folders you should exclude are as follows, including all files and subfolders within. Example paths given for Windows deployments.

  • The omniscope-server folder, containing frequently accessed/updated configuration, logs and data.
    Found at:
    C:\Users\[USERNAME]\omniscope-server
where USERNAME is the user account that the Omniscope server is running as (perhaps as a Windows service).

  • The installation folder, containing frequently accessed Omniscope program code and static data/configuration. Typically you will have a per-user installation so this will be at:
    C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Visokio Omniscope app,
but if you have a system-wide installation it will be at at:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Visokio Omniscope.

  • The app data folder, containing frequently accessed internal configuration and data. Found at:
    C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Visokio.

  • The workflow app temp folder, containing frequently accessed/updated temporary execution data.
By default this is omniscope-dm-temp within your OS temp folder, such as:
    C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Temp\omniscope-dm-temp,
but it can be customised. You should add an exclusion for its location (as shown in Omniscope at Admin > Settings > Disk Manager > Omniscope Disk status > Omniscope disk allocations > Workflow app temp).

  • (If customised:) The sharing folder, containing frequently accessed/updated projects, configuration and data.
By default this is within the omniscope-server folder and thus covered by the above, but if you have customised its location in Omniscope at Admin > Web server > Settings > General > Sharing folder, you should add an explicit exclusion for the custom location.

  • (If customised:) The data enginefolder, containing frequently accessed/updated data for reports.
By default this is within the app data folder and thus covered by the above, but if you have customised its location (as shown in Omniscope at Admin > Settings > Disk Manager > Omniscope Disk status > Omniscope disk allocations > MonetDb data engine), you should add an explicit exclusion for the custom location.
